Brianne Dewani Lauro

Brianne is a descendant of Filipino plantation workers and the daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter of Hawaii fishers and hunters. Born and raised on the Big Island, she learned how to hunt, fish and dive from her father at a young age. 

Throughout the past year, Brianne has become a storyteller for her familydocumenting and preserving the stories of her loved ones and their connection to Hawaii’s lands and waters.

In 2020, Brianne was awarded two prestigious congressional scholarships, the Harry S. Truman Scholarship and the Udall Undergraduate Scholarship.

At Brianne’s core are her love of family, heritage, local knowledge, and conservation.
