Join REI and Pitch In for National Public Lands Day 2015 Service Projects

If you love recreation time in the outdoors, you’ve got upcoming opportunities to help clean up favorite hiking trails and special places.

On September 26, 2015, pitch in with REI and other volunteers around the country to celebrate National Public Lands Day (NPLD). For a full list of events, head on over to sign up for a stewardship activity.

According to PublicLandsDay.org, this annual event began in 1994 at three locations; today there are more than 1,000 sites across the country and in Puerto Rico, with projects ranging from trail maintenance to shoreline restoration. You can find a volunteer stewardship event near you on PublicLandsDay.org.

REI’s projects will be spread out among 14 parks and public land sites, and will range in activity from clearing invasive shrubs in Wisconsin to restoring habitat in Mississippi. Visit selected REI stores to learn about volunteering events as well as local areas where you can enjoy the outdoors.

In addition to all the events specifically on September 26, 2015, other volunteer efforts take place throughout the month. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to find your niche.

Furthermore, REI has donated $600,000 to 10 trails in need of improvements as voted by the REI community. To see a list of the trails and how much each will receive, go to the Trails section on REI.com.
